The Philadelphia 76ers Lay an Egg in Game 3 Against the Boston Celtics

The Philadelphia 76ers looked overwhelmed in their first 2nd round playoff game since 2003. The Boston Celtics ratcheted the intensity and the Sixers never responded, as the Celtics used a dominant second quarter to beat the 76ers 107-91 on Wednesday night and take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Kevin Garnett scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and seemed to have something to say after every single basket. Rajon Rondo got anywhere on the court he wanted, and Paul Pierce broke out of a slump by getting to the foul line constantly. Frankly, the Sixers looked timid, tight, and not ready for the stage which is disappointing because the fans came out in full support at the Wells Fargo Center.

Game 4 is Friday night at 8:00. If the Sixers don't win this game it is safe to assume that their season will be over.

5/14/12 – After coming up short late in game 1 the Sixers were hoping to escape from Boston with a win Monday night. For them to do so they needed to get a consistent scoring effort from start to finish, an area which has been their downfall all season. They also needed to get a better rebounding effort from their spotty front court who would need to make an effort to put a body on Garnett.

5/12/12 – In the Sixers' first trip to the 2nd round in about a decade, they traveled to TD Garden to take on the Boston Celtics. Historically the Celtics have been Philadelphia's most heated rival when it comes to hoops and this matchup marks the NBA record 19th time they have met in the playoffs. The Celtics have had the edge winning 11 of the previous 18 postseason matchups, including the Sixers last trip to the 2nd round in 2003. After going 2-1 against Boston this season, Philly will need to show consistency and tremendous discipline in order to take down the veteran Celtics lineup.

Philadelphia 76ers Win Their First Playoff Series Since 2003

The Philadelphia 76ers clinched their first playoff series since Allen Iverson was an all-star for the organization.  Andre Iguodala made the go-ahead free throws with 2.2 seconds left, and Philadelphia rallied for a 79-78 victory over the top-seeded Chicago Bulls in Game 6 on Thursday night, advancing to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs for the first time since 2003.

Iguodala, who is probably playing in his last season with the Sixers, has never been a fan favorite during his tenure with the Sixers, but tonight, he finally had his Philadelphia moment. Jrue Holiday, who has been great for much of the series, had an off night and the Sixers two veterans, Iguodala and Lou Williams stepped up when it mattered the most. Allbeit, the Bulls did not have their two best players but give credit to the Sixers of taking advantage of every opportunity they received.

The Sixers begin their Eastern Conference Semi-Finals series this Saturday in Boston against their Atlantic Division rivals, Celtics.

5/8/12 – After winning both games at home, the Philadelphia 76ers traveled back to Chicago for game 5 with the opportunity to close out the series. Solid contributions from Jrue, Turner, and Hawes had been leading the way for the Sixers and would have to continue to do so. Only four times the history of the NBA has an 8 seed knocked off a 1 seed, which demonstrates the difficult of the task on hand. Despite all of the Bulls injuries, they are still one of the league's top teams and the Sixers would need an extraordinary effort to close them out on the road.
